Celebrate the region’s heritage with Maine lobster and over 60,000 lobster lovers – end July/early August.
Each year, as Maine’s short summer weather crosses from July into August, a thousand volunteers come together under a series of red and white striped carnival tents to pay homage to that celebrated crustacean, the Homarus americanus —the Atlantic lobster. You’ll find it served in traditional style—whole and boiled in salt water with seaweed, served with steamed clams, Cabot butter, corn on the cob, cole slaw & rolls—all for a surprisingly low $12.50. If you want to avoid the mess of cracking in, you can opt for a savory and buttery lobster roll, or a new-fangled lobster Caesar salad wrap. Of course, you are in Maine, so you must finish with either native blueberry cobbler or strawberry shortcake. Why choose? Get both.
And it’s not just fresh lobster. Seafood lovers can also dive into clams, mussels, calamari, rock shrimp, scallops, haddock and crab. If you pace yourself just right, you can eat all the food on the Main Eating Tent menu over the course of five days. It’s all pulled directly from the Atlantic, a stone’s throw from where you’ll enjoy the fare.
