Laite Memorial Beach

While you are in Rockland, much of your vacation time will be spent finding hidden local gems. One of these places, just a short distance away in Camden, is Laite Memorial Beach. It is a small, low key and relaxing harbor beach with no fees and easy access to the oceanfront and the waters of Camden Harbor. When driving to this location, you need to keep your eyes peeled for the entrance since only the swings and picnic tables will be visible from the road. The most notable attraction of this park is undoubtedly the large grass embankment that gently slopes down a hill to the water. At the base of the embankment, you will discover a magnificent pebble beach sweeping along the shoreline of outer Camden Harbor. Other features of this park include a children’s playground, public bathrooms, outdoor grills, and even an outdoor shower; basically everything you need for a full day on the beach.

Laite Memorial Beach ParkThis beach is not only a great spot for adults, but it is a perfect outdoor adventure for children. In their exploration, they can learn about why the beach changes its size throughout the day because of ocean tides, and they can comb the shoreline for unique seashells, snails, and other creatures. In the summer, there is a platform anchored 100-feet offshore for those who are brave enough to experience the cool Atlantic Ocean waters. Children will need the direct supervision of their parents, however, since there is no lifeguard on duty. Once on land, children can enjoy the grassy park area with swings, or partake in one of the many activities offered by the Children’s Amphitheater. Bathroom facilities are located on the premises.

Parents also have the opportunity to sit back and relax. With the kids entertained, they can take advantage of the on-site grills and picnic areas. Most importantly, adults can experience the breathtaking views of Camden Harbor, Penobscot Bay, Camden Hills and Mount Battie. It is an ideal spot for families to relax and unwind for the day.
